A Word From The Artist

I created my Garments for Survival, transparent, yet metal made armors to induce a feeling of protection against my personal experience with transculturalism. There avant-garde conceptions were resolved in a combination of various textile techniques from the old culture intertwined with found objects of the new culture. My work touches on such topics as historical reflections on the genesis, anthropological and mythological concerns related to a vast questionnaire of modernity such as environmentalism, feminism and contemporary forms of migration. Through a very fine jewelry-like composition, I intend to retrieve the harmony between body and soul, spirit and matter. Thanks to my Chilean grandmother who taught me how to crochet, embroider and all those old fashioned 'women' techniques I have been able to create these precious dresses, no longer for protection, but to inspire us to see the potential in the material excess that surrounds us. Through what I call 'emotional recycling' I recover items that were once loved and re-shape them into a new life of high art. Such harmony reflects itself in both my life size and miniature 'bijoux' sculptures.
